The most important outlet bentonite is in the civil engineering techniques, particularly in the sealing of buildings, dams construction, pipe laying, building tunnels, underground injection empty (eg Career Paris) that is to be filled, the realization of special foundations (diaphragm walls, barrettes, piles) ... Bentonite is conditioned for this use sticks (or granules) and provides a reliable hydrological sealing. The sticks are made of 99% bentonite and from about 1% filler synthetic fibers.

Bentonite is also used in geothermal techniques (heat pumps) for preventing pipes from freezing. It serves as a sealant in artificial ponds. It can be used as a dehydrating agent and as a food additive (anti-caking agent in the dye, at most 5%). His number is the E 558.

In the food industry it is used to clarify wines, beers, fruit juices, and cocoa butter in their manufacture. The bentonite can be used as bonding substance in oenology. It serves as a treatment on white wines to prevent protein sensitive. Used mash from grapes altered, it facilitates the settling.

Tests were made for the use of bentonite as artificial protection in the final storage of radioactive products.

It is also used as a drilling fluid for keeping walls and disposal of materials and drilled in emergency shutter when accidentally drilling through the floor of a major aquifer and that unintended losses then take place in the underlying terrain.

It serves as a binder in the manufacture of sand molds for casting (to bond the sand grains together).

It is also used in the design of fireworks and pyrotechnic devices to the various seal these in the compacting.

Other uses are based on its absorption faculties:

feed

petroleum refining

foundry molds

additive in papermaking

civil engineering for its thixotropic qualities

Detergent additive

Wastewater

lacquers and paints

cosmetics, acne treatment

cat litter

transformer oil

ceramic chandeliers

bonding product in enology for the elimination of proteins in white and rosé wines and musts

Elimination of the proteins produced by yeast in beer and limiting the action of enzymes

component of drilling mud
