Magnesium chloride is a chemical compound of formula MgCl2 (magnesium cation Mg2 + and two chloride anions Cl-). This is a very soluble ionic compound in the water. It is a weak Lewis acid, which is why it is readily hydrolyzed under the action of heat to give magnesium chloride hexahydrate.
Magnesium chloride is used in many fields, in addition to the extraction of magnesium metal.
